DT301Y Package – This is a fully rugged 10 inch Windows 10 tablet that weighs just under 3 lbs.  The hand strap makes for easy one handed field use, while the detachable keyboard is perfect for logging core or working in the office.  Battery life is about 7 hours with an outdoor readable back-light setting and the GPS running full time, so it should be good for a 8-9 hour field day with normal use (device on about 65% of the time); a second hot swappable battery is provided with the package so battery life for very long days is covered.  This package is a powerful complete computer and thus should handle all needs, not just field work.

Surface GO 2 Package – This is a consumer 10.5 inch Windows 10 2 in 1 tablet/laptop that weighs 1.2 lbs without the keyboard.  The rugged case protects the device in the field or core shed.  The detachable keyboard is perfect for logging core or working in the office.  Battery life is about 7 hours with an outdoor readable back-light setting and the GPS running full time, so it should be good for a 8-9 hour field day with normal use (device display on about 65% of the time); a backup battery charger is provide in the package for long days in the field.  This package is a lightweight complete computer and thus should handle all needs, not just field work.

Cost for a complete hardware/software/accessories package with a 3-year Premium Locus GIS license is $1,900 plus shipping.

A 3 year Premium Locus GIS license is available for $300.  This is only a few dollars savings over subscribing for 3 years (about $106/year) but this license does not require you to login to Google and subscribe each device through the Google play store.  The license is transferable to new devices within the 3 year term, and new licenses can be purchased as needed in the future.
